Stainless Steel Rolex
In order to ensure the tightness of the Rolex DEEPSEA to an extreme depth of 3,900 meters (12,800 feet), Rolex installed a new device: a hyperbaric tank, designed specifically for testing. This advanced hyperbaric tank, made from a piece of stainless steel and weighing 1.3 tons, play a pressure of 4,875 meters (16,000 feet) below sea level, about 25% more than what appears indicated on the clock. The pressure of water on the glass and the bottom of the case at this depth is equivalent to a force of 4.5 tons. This high-tech equipment has been developed and manufactured by COMEX (Compagnie Maritime d'Expertise), an internationally renowned French company specializing in underwater engineering and hyperbaric technologies, with which Rolex has worked for several decades.
